To Our State Department Friends and Colleagues:

You matter. Your efforts matter. Your stories matter.

This archival project is collecting the insights from U.S. State Department employees (including civil service, foreign service, contractors and others) who have been separated from the Department this year.

Some officers advanced democracy and human freedom. Some worked to prevent nuclear catastrophe. Others fostered cultural understanding, or safeguarded our global environment. All of you represented the best of America—and helped change the world.

We aim to record the impact of erasing DoS personnel and offices so that the public, and future generations of Americans, can understand your service to our country, and what it means to lose you.

How do I take part?

You can complete an online survey to share your story and insights, for future officers and the American public. If you are interested, we can also conduct an interview with you to better understand the details of your story.

What will be done with the results?

We are building this archive for historical memory. We will cross-check data, and where possible, supplement with other sources, so we can produce a fair and accurate picture of your invaluable efforts. With your permission, we will share the impact of your work with others.

We will strive to protect your individual information, but please use care and common sense when sharing your story. Do NOT share any classified information.

This project is organized by former DOS employees, in solidarity. It is not affiliated with the USG.
